TROPICA® - Purple Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia purpurea) - 10 Seeds
Worth knowing: What‘s so special about this pitcher plant is the fact that it is cold-resistant. It can even be grown outdoors within our latitudes. The upper part of the pitcher is of striking colour. Insects are attracted by this striking visual appearance and the scent emitting from the nectar glands. Lured to the rim of the pitcher they encounter its slippery surface and fall in.
Origin: The Purple Pitcher Plant is indigenous to the Eastern parts of USA, New Fund Land and Southern Canada.
Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. Store the fine seeds together with the packet in a fridge for 2 weeks and sow them out onto a well moistened planting medium. With temperatures between 22° and 28°C, germination takes place after 3 to 7 weeks.
Place / Light: The Purple Pitcher Plant can be placed shady to full sunny.
Care: Within the house, the pot should always be placed in a saucer filled with water. The plant can also be perfectly grown in marshy ground close to a pond and even spend the winter there. In case temperatures drop below -15°C you should put some peat around the pitcher plant.
Winter period: Do not place close to heating over winter.
Bonsai Suitability: No
